The miracle of childbirth is familiar to Cassie Green, CNM, APRN, who is not only a mother of four, but also worked more than a decade as an OB technician and a labor and delivery nurse at Sarah Bush Lincoln.
Helping families welcome newborns into the world and caring for them left Green wanting to do more to help women and their babies, throughout the pregnancy process and to birth.
To do so, she earned her midwife certification, and she is helping women with their care during pregnancy and through labor.
“Pregnancy itself is an amazing thing. It’s incredible that women can carry their child, give birth and be back on their feet the next day,” she said. “We’re helping create families here at SBL, and to be part of that is tremendous.”
Green started her medical career as a pharmacy technician in 2002, eventually working as on OB technician at SBL in 2011. She earned her associate and bachelor degrees in nursing and worked as a registered nurse in SBL Labor and Delivery since 2015. She then earned her Master of Science in Nursing and completed midwifery certification in 2022.
Green offers obstetric care in SBL Women’s Healthcare, helping pregnant women through their pregnancies and post-partum. She is also on-call to deliver babies as part of SBL’s new labor and delivery model.
Green relies on her professional and even her personal experiences to provide top-notch care for women and newborns. “I think about my own experiences with childbirth and how those experiences could’ve gone differently, or how great they were,” she explained. “I want to be that person who can be there for women.”
As a healthcare professional and mother herself, Green knows the time surrounding a child’s birth is an important time in a woman’s life. Her goal is to be a guiding and supportive voice for women through it all.
“To be there for women and help them is so rewarding,” Green said. “I want to empower women because they deserve that support. Babies are so wonderful, and I enjoy taking care of newborns as well.”
