KickStart, Sarah Bush Lincoln’s interactive fitness and education vehicle, is leading bicyclists on a Capital to Capitol - ONE Ride - from Philadelphia to Washington DC in June.

The bicycle ride, set for June 26 to 28, is intended to raise awareness about the negative impact of childhood obesity and to advocate for positive legislative attention toward the growing trend. First Lady Michelle Obama has been invited to make an appearance at the Capital stairs on behalf of her Let’s Move! campaign.

KickStart was invited to lead the way for bicyclists by event organizers from the Pennsylvania State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD). It’s a non-profit organization committed to the professional growth and development of its members and to encourage others to lead more active and healthy lifestyles.

Kim Lockart, Sarah Bush Lincoln special events coordinator and ride participant said, “We are honored to be invited to lead these bicyclists to our nation’s capital. The goal of our KickStart vehicle is to help get kids excited about activity and nutrition through education. It has been a tremendous hit at schools, and it turns a few heads on the highway too. This event is perfectly aligned with our goals for improving community health.”

The issue of childhood obesity and the group’s desire to advocate and do more is the foundation and purpose of the Capital to Capitol – ONE Ride. As the 2012 President of PSAHPERD, Kimberley Razzano and her ONE Ride team have made it their goal to focus on increasing the quality of lives by decreasing childhood obesity. Subsequently, the ONE Ride is a three-day bicycle ride that will journey from Harrisburg, PA (the Commonwealth Capital) to the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

For more information about the ride, contact Kim Lockart, 217 258-2511. To schedule an appearance of KickStart, contact Suzanne Logue, Healthy Communities director at 217 345-6828.
