Gastroenterology

Colorectal screenings save lives–16,000 in fact. Have you made your appointment?

What is Gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is the study of the gastrointestinal tract and liver, which includes the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts. Effingham Ambulatory Surgery Center is proud to offer a variety of gastroenterology surgery services to help our patients detect possible life-threating diseases and treat smaller issues as necessary. We utilize state-of-the-art equipment and collect high-quality images to analyze your gastrointestinal tract and liver.

Colonoscopy and Endoscopy

The most common gastroenterology services we offer are the colonoscopy and endoscopy. There are many benefits of a colonoscopy, a procedure that examines the inner lining of the large intestine, rectum, and colon. A colorectal screening is a simple way to catch a potentially fatal disease early. Common findings include ulcers, colon polyps, tumors, inflammation, or bleeding. This procedure is recommended for patients aged 50+ and for those 40+ who have a family history of colon cancer.

An endoscopy–upper or lower–is a procedure used to evaluate your digestive system. This evaluation can be carried out by inserting a camera through a cut or body opening, such as the mouth. Minimally invasive, an endoscopy is more accurate than an X-ray and is an excellent way to detect inflammation or ulcers.
